Our Mission

The City of Quincy Lincoln Bicentennial Commission will:

  • Coordinate local plans and projects to celebrate:

    • the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln-Douglas Debate, which occurred October 13, 1858, in Quincy,

    • and Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday February 12, 2009, in connection with state and national celebrations.

  • Identify, interpret, commemorate, celebrate, preserve and share Quincy and Adams County’s unique Lincoln legacy through improvements to its Lincoln-Douglas Debate site.

  • Sponsor the creation and installation of a series of “Looking for Lincoln” exhibits throughout the Central Business District to identify the many Quincy residents who influenced Lincoln and Douglas.

  • Assist in the development of educational programs that will continue to inspire learners in the Legacy of Lincoln in Quincy.
