The Lincoln-Douglas Debate of October 13, 1858, occurred in front of this Adams County Courthouse on Fifth Street, Quincy, before an estimated 12,000 gathered in Washington Park, just west.

The Story of Lincoln in Quincy

will be told in a series of “storyboards” that will be installed at eighteen Quincy locations important to the Lincoln-Quincy story.
     Quincy will join several Illinois communities in a “Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition” to share the Lincoln Legacy. The program will give visitors a continuity of experiences in Lincoln’s Illinois.
     Quincy’s Lincoln Bicentennial Commission will create and permanently install at historic sites in Quincy storyboards to tell the story of the 16th president’s connections to Quincy.
     Among the exhibitions will be the stories of:
